Universitaetsklinikum Heidelberg (UKL-HD)

Heidelberg University Hospital (UKL-HD) is one of the leading medical centers in Europe with over 40 specialized clinical departments. UKL-HD is constantly developing new diagnosis and treatment methods at the forefront of biomedical science for the benefit of all patients. The Medical Faculty of Heidelberg is one of the oldest medical faculties in Germany. The over 600 years of education and research in medicine have multiple implications for this faculty: tradition, experience, and a deep founded responsibility to conquer the incredible challenges that medicine of the 21st century presents. The Medical Faculty has prepared itself for these challenges in multiple ways: the establishment of central scientific institutions, of focus points in research, and of internal promotion and support of innovative research groups. Both institutions share the goal to develop novel therapies and implement them rapidly for patients.

In addition, several labs at UKL-HD and on campus share a key interest in hereditary monogenetic diseases, including several diverse muscle disorders. The translational competence and orientation of UKL-HD are ideally complemented by a technology transfer office with long-standing fundamental expertise in management and licensing of intellectual property.

Within the MYOCURE project, UKL-HD will contribute their unique expertise in the design, production and ex/in vivo screening of libraries of chimeric AAV vectors with engineered specificities and efficiencies. These activities are perfectly embedded within the profile of UKL-HD and the Life Sciences Campus in Heidelberg, which is world-renowned for ground-breaking work in the fields of AAV vectors, gene therapy and clinical use of viruses.
